What Dns Web Does

Point Your Domain Right

About DNS for websites — pointing domains at hosts, subdomains, CDNs, SSL validation records, and the web-facing side of DNS.

🌐

Domain-to-Host Setup

The records that connect a purchased domain to wherever your site actually lives.

🔤

www vs Apex

Why the bare domain and www behave differently, and how to make both work cleanly.

🚀

CDN Configuration

Pointing DNS through a CDN for speed and protection — and the gotchas of proxied records.

🔒

SSL Validation Records

The TXT and CNAME records certificate authorities ask for, and why they prove ownership.

↪️

Redirect Strategies

Domain-level redirects done at the right layer — DNS myths versus what actually redirects.

🧭

Subdomain Planning

blog., shop., app. — structuring subdomains before the sprawl structures itself.

How Dns Web Works

From signup to value in 3 steps

1

Point the domain

Set the A or CNAME records your host specifies, for both apex and www, and verify each resolves to the right place.

2

Add the layers

Layer in the CDN, issue the SSL certificate with its validation record, and set the canonical redirect.

3

Verify everything

Test both hostnames over HTTPS from a fresh network, confirm redirects land correctly, and note the records you set for next time.

Frequently Asked

A record or CNAME — which do I use?

An A record points a name at an IP address; a CNAME points it at another name. Hosts that give you an IP want an A record; hosts that give you a hostname want a CNAME — and apex domains often need ALIAS/ANAME workarounds.

Why isn't my site loading after a DNS change?

Check three usual suspects: the record points to the wrong target, old values are still cached within their TTL, or the host isn't configured to serve your domain name yet.

Do I need www at all?

You need it to work — users type it. Pick either www or the bare domain as canonical, redirect the other, and stay consistent everywhere.
